Pre-booked a rental but on arrival was unable to rent because Budget required further documentation due to my age being over 76. This may be hidden in the small print but despite having had to provide my age in advance during booking, there was no mention of any additional documentation requirements in their emails.

On arrival at the desk they said we needed to pay several hundred pounds despite us having paid in full via booking.com. The rep made out it was all very confusing and he couldn't see where the discrepancy came from but he would charge us the money and then query it with his manager tomorrow. I held my ground and eventually we got to see the detailed booking he was working from and it included collision damage waiver which I had expressly declined. It took maybe half an hour, was very stressful and I wonder whether they were just trying it on or whether this was a specific policy to add it on and hope people just pay it. Left a bad taste. The rest of the rental was all good.

Very poor experience. Agent added additional insurance products into rental agreement without properly explaining. Beware - they ask you to sign an agreement in French, so make sure you ask them exactly what you are signing for (even if prepaid).
Good, they didn't quibble over Excess Policy, Car had quite a lot of minor damage but perfectly okay over 400Km. No fuss collection or return.

It was not made clear that anyone over 75 requires a doctor's letter to rent a vehicle with them.
