— Alberto • May 19, 2026Super cheap. Really good car. But ridiculous costs for puncture repair and cleaning.
— Tim • September 14, 2025Very friendly and great price. The car was an upgrade on the one I expected which was a delight.

— Sam • August 6, 2025Very easy purchase with the cover needed to ease driving abroad.
— Woodmaster • July 18, 2025We retreived the vehicle on time, full tank, clean and without a scratch. Still, no deposit refund yet. They don't answer emails or through their website at all! Stay away, robbery in progress...
— Laks • July 2, 2025We retreived the vehicle on time, full tank, clean and without a scratch. Still, no deposit refund yet. They don't answer emails or through their website at all! Stay away, robbery in progress...
— Laks • July 2, 2025Check in was quick and the car in good condition. On return a confirmation that there was no damage was received promptly. Happy with the service received and good value
— HC • June 27, 2025Between October 17 and 21, I rented a car from 'Sicily by car' at Palermo airport. I paid a deposit of 100 euros upon receipt as a guarantee of a full tank. I dropped off the car without any problems, with a full tank, at the requested time, they took it over. Unfortunately, the 100 euro deposit was not refunded to me until today even though I asked by email and by phone. They just don't answer.
— Liza • December 4, 2024They charged 150 euros for "sanitization", because of garbage left in the car. Yes we should have cleaned up, but who charges 150 euros for that?? It's 5 times more than what a regular car wash would charge. I have rented cars in various countries for several years and never had a similar situation. I have sent them emails and they never responded. Now I am reading other awful reviews from other people and it is so frustrating to be ripped off like this and there are no consequences for them!
— LG • November 5, 2024How can Sicily by car only forward a traffic fine after the 60 day expiry period to pay a reduced cost? Rented a car in June and only received the fine in October? Now we must pay double what the fine was worth because Sicily by car did not do their due diligence and the on top of that pay a 50euro admin fee. I want to lodge an official complaint against Sicily by car and will insist any way necessary to pay the original traffic fine cost due to negligence on part of Sicily by car. I advise you make contact immediately before legal steps are taken.
— Nova1 • October 6, 2024We picked up a car from the Florence city branch and though the collection was OK, it was everything thereafter that became problematic. The company promised to send various documents (car collection and return confirmation) via email. These documents never arrived, even after I had followed up with both the Florence and head offices. I did, however, receive an email meant for another customer. So I queried whether there was an email address mix-up, and received zero response until I reported a potential data breach. As it turns out, there was a simple typo in the email domain name and an efficent customer support agent sorted the issue. But had I not escalated the matter to the Data Protection Office, my contact details would still be incorrect. More unsettling, neither HQ or the Florence office bothered to even respond, despite having raising concerns about my private data. If you read reviews on Google and Tripadvisor, you will observe that this company employs a generally unethical approach to its rentals. I will not rent a vehicle from Sicily by Car again.
— Shaun • June 20, 2024Efficient and friendly service
— jas • June 20, 2024Easy pick up and return
— Lutters • May 30, 2024Like others, we have had a pretty frustrating and poor experience with this company while renting a car through them (via sunnycars). To start, they are extremely slow at processing customers to pickup your car. During the trip we got a flat tire while near the southern coast on the island. The car had no spare tire in the back... We purchased coverage and figured this would be a simple fix, but it was an actual nightmare. We were in contact with an emergency service center who only gave us the option to come tow our car (which we wouldnt get back) and for us to then find a way back up to Olbia from the highway we were stranded on 2+ hours away from the airport, in hopes that the rental office could give us a replacement car. We told the service center to wait until we could confrim from the Olbia office that we can get a new car and the very expensive taxi ride was covered by them. The office did not pick up the phone as we continued to call them for over TWO HOURS, stranded in the heat with our 2 year old. In the end, luckily, our agriturismo hosts helped arrange their own tow truck and we got the wheel fixed ourselves after a grueling 7-8 hours of effort and broken english/italian conversations. In the end, this company refused to re-imburse these costs because the tow truck and mechanic we used were not "approved by the olbia office", the same office who would not pick up their phone or answer their emails. But wait, it's not over. 2 weeks after we got home they also sent us a damage claim, charging us another 500 euros for: (1) a scratch we have photos of upon picking up the car, (2) a "different" tire, since we had to get a new one or be stranded on the highway, and (3) the use of the tire repair kit which did nothing to help us anyways. To add to all this drama, out contact through email during our vacation afterwards (about the tire costs) was negative and they purely blamed us for the costs as we "made our own rules" when we decided not to get the car towed through their emergency services. The same situation that would have left us stranded, unknowing if we'll have our 2.5hr taxi trip reimbursed if we taxi'd to olbia away from our accommodate, without knowing if the office was even open or had a replacement car for us (since they just never picked up the phone). What a novel! The feeling now is that they took our heated email conversation personally and are now trying to charge us for bogus damage costs out of spite. If you're traveling anywhere in italy, avoid this company and save yourself the hassle!
— MS • May 28, 2024Good value and efficient
— Scooterboy007 • April 16, 2024Drove from Rome to Siena and all wonderful. Went to pickup friends at bus station and car dies, smoke fills cabin and the nightmare begins. It’s Easter weekend and there is no support. Lucky to get car towed. Now without a car. Now they are saying I burned out the clutch. I’ve driven clutch most of my life so something is not right. They see North American and an Asian residence they try to play games. I have insurance but that’s not the issue. How can they know the clutch was not going to fail with a load that was what the car specified. Between them and rentalcar.com all I can say is stay clear of them. A company that has no support and worse yet scams people is worse.
— Scammed be Sicily By Car • May 18, 2023I booked a car through Car rental more than 2 months in advance. It was an automatic car from the Car Group: Opel Grandland X or similar (because due to my back problems I cannot drive small cars with small seats). When I arrived Catania airport they did not have such a car and I was forced to take the only available automatic car - SEAT Arona. In addition to aggravations and back pains which I suffered, the company compensated me with A negligible sum of less than 10 EUR, while the total cost (including 1 way payment) was 300 EUR.
— MS • April 18, 2023SCAM ALERT!! They refuse to refund me 260 euros!!! I had to pay an extra 80 euros fee because I didn’t have a credit card, and was told this would be refunded when I wrote an email upon return of the car (Rome to Palermo). I subsequently booked and paid for another car (for Palermo to Syracuse), and was told when I went to collect the car that I couldn’t take it because I didn’t have a credit card. I told her how I’d paid the 80 euro’s previously, insisted she ring her manager, and she still refused to let me take the car. Left high and dry without transportation! She told me I would get a full refund of my 180 euros I’d already paid online. No refund has appeared. Finally received an email back today saying that as it’s in their T&Cs that you need to have a credit card, that I will not get a cent back of the 260 euros they owe me!! I hope people see this review and use SRC (Sicily rental cars) instead. Local company too and they were wonderful and flexible and helped me a lot with this debacle.
— Kristen • February 13, 2023do not use this company, rental price was finaly doubled than the first offer, very unprofessional, never again with Sicily by Car
— Martin • January 19, 2023
Scam company. They are nowhere to be seen when you need help so impossible to contact them unless you go to their office in the airport and then they take random money from your account
— Suley • December 6, 2022Great price but quite a long wait to pick up but quick and easy booking
— Sue • October 17, 2022Good overall. Bit slow on collection but return was efficient and friendly. Car was fine.
— Steve • September 18, 2022No issues, late opening office hours was very useful
— Kevin • September 14, 2022Scam bags, I highly recommend to stay away from these scammers they'll try anything to steal your money in the way we'll organise.
— Tomato Dragotto • August 27, 2022Regarding Contract # 940574876 . I have attempted to reach this company since June 18 2022 without a single acknowledgement. Here is my sad story. On May 30, my friend & I picked up one of your cars at the Catania airport. On May 31, I drove the car to Portopalo Sicily. Whilst attempting to climb one of the many steep hills en route to Portopalo, the car's engine over-heated and stopped. (Photo attached). Here we were 2 lone women stranded on the highway in a foreign country. The car overheated & stopped functioning. We pulled over & allowed the car to cool down. After waiting for approximately 10 minutes, we attempted to start the car once again. It started, the car overheated once again so we stopped the engine out of fear. After a few attempts, we were finally able to roll into the only gas station in Portopalo. At this point the car was completely dead & inoperable. The engine wouldn't even turn. This was approximately noon. Thanks to the gas station attendant, after approximately 2 hours, we were able to reach roadside service who sent a flatbed tow truck to take the vehicle away. However, he left us stranded in Portopalo with no taxis in sight to get us back to Marzameme where we were staying. We finally got through to your Catania service desk who proceeded to tell us that they were unable to send a replacement car and that the onus was on us to pick it up. They said they would reimburse us for a taxi to take us to the Catiania airport location. We tried your Siracusa location however they didn't have any vehicles available so we wound up having to work our way back to Catania to pick up the replacement. Our new friend the gas station attendant finally secured us a taxi from Siracusa to pick us up and drive us to Catania. AT 6 pm we were picked up for the long drive to Catania. Our entire vacation day was ruined as we were stranded and NO ONE at your organization cared that we were 2 middle aged women alone in a country & town we had never been to. We finally arrived in Marzameme at 9:00 pm. Also, cab expense was $180 EU because we had to source a cab from another town. I ask that Sicily by Car do the right thing by us however they're choosing to ignore me. We ask for reimbursement for the following items. 1 day car rental 1 day insurance fee eu $180 cab fare to Catania eu $36 fuel used in the broken down car . Why are they not acknowledging my complaint?
— Angie • July 22, 2022Fast efficient pick up and return of car. Car had only done 1000km so in perfect condition. Friendly staff and did not try and push any extras onto you. Car hire very expensive this year but this was the best price I could get from a reputable company
— Jim • June 17, 2022Extremely polite, professional and helpful. From collecting through to returning, the process was extremely easy
— Sam • June 11, 2022Very smooth process. Efficient and professional. No quibbling over insurance.
— Ange • June 5, 2022I did rent a car in Champino airport , they frizzed £650 on my credit card and it should release after 10 days of bring the car back , still after 23 days they did not unblock my credit card i did try many times to contact them but no one answer the phone and I did even email them no response . I am not happy and I have no good feeling for this company . I will try to report them , I will never use them anymore
— Martin • May 24, 2022Great service from Sicily By Car, easy pick up and return, no issues at all and really great car
— Denis • April 17, 2022Great service and value for money
— Erste • April 8, 2022We received a car that wasn't fit-for-purpose. Hazard lights flashing regularly and once needed recovery as brakes failed in very light snow. Also as journey back to the airport took an extra 2 hours there was not time to fill the tank before returning the car. I was charged 70 euros for less than a quarter of the tank. My 3 emails about all of this have been ignored.
— k12 • March 13, 2022Nice easy car hire, no hassle at all. Local staff was very helpful and polite.
— Alex • February 23, 2022I wish I could give them a zero star... DO NOT RENT FROM THEM! I rented a car from SicilyByCar at Bergamo Airport. During my trip, a street camera caught my car on a street that was closed, it was snowing and I didn't see the sign. Local Police sent Verbale no. xx with a fine of 64.60 EURO, they sent it to the car plate number registered address (SiclyByCar address). SicilyByCar rental company forwarded the Verbale to my email address and I paid it immediately online via PagoPA using my credit card. I then sent the payment confirmation to SicilyByCar for their records. The next day, SicilyByCar charged my credit card the amount of 61 EUR and they said it represents the administrative fee for handling the ticket file. The first paragraph in Rental Agreement states: STREET CODE VIOLATIONS IF I GET ANY FINE FOR VIOLATIONS TO THE STREET CODE, SICILY BY CAR S.p.A. WILL PASS MY DETAILS (NAME, SURNAME, ADDRESS AND SO ON) TO THE AUTHORITY WHICH HAS ISSUED IT. THIS IN ORDER FOR THE FINE TO BE NOTIFIED TO ME DIRECTLY. I HEREBY ACKNOWLEDGE AND COMMIT TO PAY EURO 50,00 + VAT TO BE CHARGED DIRECTLY TO MY CREDIT CARD AS PAYMENT FOR THE ADMINISTRATION SERVICES RELATED TO THE SINGLE FINE OR MOTORWAY TOLL, WHICH I HAVE FAILED TO PAY. I EXPRESSLY AGREE TO PAY ANY FINES FOR WHICH I MAY BE LIABLE TO THE COMPETENT AUTHORITY DIRECTLY IN ORDER TO AVOID THE CHARGE OF THE HERE ABOVE MENTIONED ADDITIONAL SERVICE. I WILL NOT BE CHARGED IF I PAY DIRECTLY FOR THE FINE WITHIN THE EXPECTED HANDLING PERIOD NECESSARY STATED BY THE AUTHORITIES, AND OF COURSE I AM OBLIGED TO SEND A COPY OF THE DOCUMENTATION TO SICILY BY CAR S.p.A., AS A PROOF OF PAYMENT. Also the Contract General Conditions I signed, Paragraph 2.2, letter e) on page 2 states: e) The renter shall be financially responsible for all fines and/or highway tolls and/or parking tickets occurred during the rental period and to pay, in case the Renter has not paid for them immediately, the amount of € 50,00 + VAT, for the additional service related to fines and/or highway tolls and/or parking tickets; In both places, the contracts state I will only be charged the administrative fee if I fail to pay the ticket, which I paid immediately and forwarded the confirmation to the rental company. SicilyByCar refused to cancel the administrative fee, although I contacted them through email, they stated they are entitled to charge the fee.
— mimi • December 29, 2021ver bad customer service of the main office!! do not rent your car here! on the road the rental car needed to be fixed, we tried to contact sicily by car a lot of times but got disconnected every time. we were stranded so had to act. went to a local garage to get it fixt. SicilyByCar will not pay those costs back. been trying for months, don't even answer. finally an answer: will pay nothing! because we did not follow procedure. how can we if we could not reach you??? 185 euro i payed and a full rental day gone... so watch out for this guys, they rip you off!!!!
— josien • September 5, 2021Avoid at all cost!!! The worst car rental company that I've dealt with... They provided me with a car that was totally different class to what I've ordered + they were not interested in checking the car's condition together with me either at the pick-up or return locations. The car had damage that I photographed when I picked it up and showed the pictures at the customer service points at the return. A gentleman at the return point wasn't interested in going out of the airport to check the car, he checked the pictures I took and said: "These are small damages that's why they were not in marked in the rental paperwork initially." They returned me a full deposit but after 2 weeks I received a letter asking me to cover 700 euros of a damage penalty fee!!! I refused to pay and the case is now with my solicitor. Luckily I've got pictures that clearly show the damage at the moment I picked up the car. Hopefully, they will treat it as a valid proof and say sorry for their radiculous customer service. As mentioned at the beginning, DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS COMPANY! AVOID AT ALL COST otherwise, they will try to rip you off.
— Marcin P • October 6, 2020Due to last minute booking, there were no mayor companies car available, and I booked with this criminal company in Catania Airport. I also booked 1 of the 2 optional insurances covering accidents, but I did not booked the windows insurance. For a little damage on the forward screen, they made my pay 700 euros!! I can confirm they are real thieves #sicilybycarripoff
— STAY AWAY FROM SICILY BY CAR Criminal Company • July 20, 2020I cannot stress this enough - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They may be cheaper than usual but there's a reason for this, they are awful. I don't usually write negative reviews however I want everyone to stop and think before they even engage with this company. We picked up a filthy Fiat 500. When we picked it up, we started looking at the damage against their inspection and we were told not to. An irate little twerp tried to tell us to stop but I told him we weren't leaving until we could verify all current damage. We had to add scratches and dents and all kinds that they handily hadn't noticed... I had to clean the inside of the car, the dashboard was absolutely filthy and stained. The windscreen was covered in patches of what appeared to be glue, which we had to pick off over the course of the weekend we had it. Come drop off, there was no one around (of course, oldest trick in the book) so we took photos and dropped off the keys. Fast forward a few weeks and we get a letter in the post saying we'd damaged the interior of the car. The photos of the exterior were perfect... The photos of the 'damage' however was so blurry that it looked like someone had taken them whilst on a pogo stick. Oh and they were date and time stamped... For 2001. We rented the car in 2019... They told us they were going to charge our card 388 Euros + VAT. I told them on countless occasions if they dared to take a penny I would launch a counter claim, charging them for wasting my time and the money I had to pay cleaning the absolute heap they rented us. Eventually we got a response which basically said oh sorry yes we have absolutely no evidence. Just over a year on, they STILL are holding our security deposit of 300 Euros. I have just emailed them with another threat. With the time wasted dealing with such fraudulent clowns, I could have rented the most expensive car in Bergamo airport and still been financially better off than I am now. Whatever you do, avoid this company at all costs. You have been warned. Their cheap deals are exactly that - cheap and nasty.
— Do not use Sicily by Car • June 23, 2020Summary: This company is a nest of crooks. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! First bad experience: We book a car for one day for a single trip to Catania and back so we didn't book an excess insurance. We got the keys to check that the car was in good condition before signing the contract and by mistake the driver went to the passenger side (because we live in Malta and we have the steering wheel "UK like") he found that the lock on the passenger side wasn't working at all!! They wanted to charge us for the broken lock! We had a terrible day thinking what else they might come up with after we return the car. Second bad experience: I booked a car through a broker (my bad, I didn't pay attention to the rental company at first) and when I contacted them for a quotation for a full cover without excess they keep saying only at the front desk, obviously to make you pay 400 eur no excess cover for a 5 days rent. Thank God I had free cancellation! Never never never rent with them! pay a few more euro and get a reputable company!
— Jeff • June 22, 2020
returned from ancona italy in september and recieved debits from my halix credit card for 60E IN December January February and March I have contacted the company who said it may be for speeding or non payment of tolls but the police would contact me which they havent.
— Gary • April 2, 2020Never again!!! Read very carefully the contract. when we collect the car we had to pay extra money for the car insurance that was an extra 60 Eur/day even at the internet reservation I have chosen the expensive and full coverade option. Car collection was chaos, as everybody was paying extra money for the insurance. We got a parking fee and we have to pay the parking penalty 1 60EUR "management fees" to Sicily By Car. I do not understand that but it is on the contract. Be very carefully. I do not recommend this agency.
— germay • March 30, 2020Service was professional and car excellent
— Wednesday knight • March 1, 2020SCAM ALERT! Stay away! Very misleading price and disorganized company with predatory practices. In addition, my ordered optional extras were not honored, nor reimbursed (even though I already paid for them). Also, my deposit has not been returned. However, thankfully, the car worked. Anyway, final rental cost ended up being 4x greater than what was falsely advertised. So, do yourself a favor and spend a few more dollars at a larger, reputable, and better organized car rental company that conducts business in good faith and honor.
— Roberto da Silva Ribeiro • February 28, 2020Really smooth. Car was as expected. Only blip was snow chains were not supplied in car. Apparently you have to collect them.yourself. Would use again though.
— Wee G • February 16, 2020Sicily by car has had a lot of bad publicity, my experience: they were very courteous and apologetic, probably trying to make up, on return they did not inspect the car with a magnifying glass as many do and signed the "no new damage box" without hesitation. Although theres a large deposit this didn't bother me thanks to reduce my excess. I had it covered. Sicily by car is probably my first choice on my next car hire requirement. As I can see they are trying to win thier customers back and are not interested in ripping people off as most car hire companies do.
— Faz • January 25, 2020They are irreliable. There have hidden expenses. They don't say the real prices.. The prices are much more higher than they say. I paid three times more of the price that I had agreed. They are rude and they offend you. Don't prefer them.
— Kallia • January 17, 2020DON'T CHOOSE THIS CAR RENTAL COMPANY! We rented a Seat Toledo car from Milan. It wasn't the car we reserved and we paid more for this car, because they told us it was the last one. The car was looking good, though. When we returned the car, we had the gas tank fulled 10 km before arriving at the parking spot, but they charged us with 50 euros more, saying that the gas tank wasn't full. We tried to reach them several times but they did not respond! We do not recomend this company.
— Ruxi • January 3, 2020I had the worst car rental experience ever! I do not recommend Sicily by Car! I rented a 9-seat Mercedes van more than two months before our trip to Italy. We fully payed the bill for the car rent at moment when we booked it. When we arrived to Malpensa Airport Terminal 1 rent desk of Sicily by Car we encountered several problems. First of all, we needed to pay extra ~340 eur, for "super inssurance" as vans can not have standard insurance (at least employee claimed that), so thet there would be 0 risk for damage (ok, seems legit reason). On top of that they reserved 500 euros (why? if they had super insurance?). We needed to pay extra 80 for the 2 childers seats (although they where included in the first bill), and at the end they do not even have Mercedes vans and gave us Citroen instead. Needless to say the service was slow as well. When we received the car it did not have baby chairs in it – so we needed to get back to their office to ask again for the baby chairs. When we returned the car after our trip with same fuel level when we received the car, Sicily by Car made us to fill the fuel to the max despite it was not full when we received the car.
— Marta • October 16, 2019A good car - only 8000 kms on the clock. Not properly cleaned - windscreen filthy.Otherwise everything went smoothly.
— Highly Satisfied • October 5, 2019I use Sicily car car at Perugia airport every year, even if other companies are sometimes cheaper. The reason is that they are always efficient and friendly and don’t try to sell me insurance I don’t need, as I always take out my own excess. At this airport I wouldn’t use anyone else.
— spiderkemp • August 13, 2019Very good rates, clearly used by Italians also. Friendly, low pressure.
— Limoncello Lover • July 13, 2019Waited in queue to collect pre booked car for well over an hour with small children. Long walk with luggage and children to collect car, and same on return. Unhelpful staff refused to assist fitting of two child seats hired with car. Struggling in very hot weather with baby and two year old. Car was good. Return quick and efficient.
— Old Moaner • June 21, 2019Good price and kiosk easy to find in the terminal building. Queue can be very slow, as there are only two desks and lots of customers. They do try to sell additional insurance, but no pressure if you decline, provided you accept the 700 euro retention against your credit card. I've used them on three occasions with no issues upon return on any of them (including an after hours return). Last time, the car was not very clean on the outside, but they were clearly very busy and it wasn't a big deal to me. They have a Full to Full policy, and if you return it less than full, they will direct you to the nearest petrol station to avoid their admin fee (only a couple of minutes away so no big deal). Overall, a contented customer, and I will continue to use them in future trips
— Nikki • June 19, 2019DO NOT RECOMMENDED. THEY charged us €90 for using debit card, without properly informing us about extra charges for if. Guy behind the desk told us that extra deposit will be taken because it's a debit card, and we agreed on it. Money were taken from our account after we gave the car back and left the country and it turned out it's not a deposit but extra cost and they are not going to give it back.
— Polinka • May 30, 2019yes fine not too much pressure to buy company's insurance. Fairly quick service and polite. Good returns
— The Indian • May 27, 2019booking information stated full tank to full tank but although the paperwork stated the car was full it was only 2/8ths which they corrected the paperwork. I wanted them to fill it but that wasn't forthcoming, however the tank was still half full on return and no offer of refund, I always prefer full tank to full tank but this was the only thing that disapointed me,

Had bad experience with Sicilyby Car see my petition https://www.thepetitionsite.com/en-ca/123/510/569/warning-sicily-by-car-fraudulent-company.-do-not-use/
— Alberto • July 16, 2018I paid extra for the sat-nav (integral) didn't use it,it was in Italian and I couldn't work out how to change the language. They still made me pay 39 €.
— Baz • June 17, 2018
Car fine. Minor damage on it but all noted prior to collections
— Kim • October 24, 2017Easy to find the office. No waiting around either at pick up or drop off. Car almost new: no problems. Cost a little high compared with Spain last year.
— Victor • July 26, 2017friendly no problem but did keep us waiting to inspect a scratch upon collection
— espi • July 16, 2017While on pick up they provide good and nice service my claim the aircon doesn't work as it should has been refused, while the cabin filters where full of dust (I took pictures). The car was Peugeot, far from the Golf or similar we expected as it was bigger and slower, however quite nice on fuel efficiency even on Sardinia's steep roads. However, almost fainting behind the wheel when it was 28 in the cabin with aircon on full hasn't been pleasant experience. My partner was pregnant at that time. Sardinia is very dusty island, so cabin filters should be checked and cleaned or replaced after every two weeks.
