Customer reviews for Delpaso
I booked a car hire online with 'Do You Spain' and had already several months before, purchased a separate annual 'excess insurance' policy - this covers any excess charges in case of vehicle damage and has worked perfectly year after year. On arrival at the Delpaso airport depot, I passed over my driving licence, passport, two credit cards and two debit cards. The two credit cards showed my name as Mr D Brown and D S Brown. The debit cards both showed David Brown. The DoYouSpain voucher (who I had booked through), wording said I needed a 'Credit Card (in the name of the main driver)' None of these cards were acceptable to avoid the additional insurance premium of €200 - they don't accept debit cards, and Delpaso said the credit cards must contain the full name. Despite that, they were happy to take the payment for the XS insurance €200 using the same credit card. The small print does not say the credit card must show 'full name' - but Delpaso claimed as the card did not show my full name they wouldn't accept it and I had to purchase the additional insurance from them. The small print on the hire voucher I had states : A major credit card (Visa or Mastercard) in the name of the main driver is required inorder to collect the car. (Please note that cards without the driver's name on will not be accepted). This company will not accept prepaid, rechargeable, virtual credit cards or cards issued by virtual banks. There is also a scam going on regarding International Driving Permits (IDP) where this company says you need one, or pay the excess insurance - I have never had an IDP despite renting a car dozens of times in Spain. They differentiate UK driving licences from European yet the government advice says you don't need one, though some companies ask for it
— Broony • October 7, 2025Car we received was of lower class than we booked, Citroen C1 rather than DX3. It had over 80k km on the clock, was dirty and woefully underpowered. When I told them I had my own insurance excess they wanted to charged me €190 rather than €120
— Nothappy • August 17, 2025It was easy to collect the car and drop it off. One issue was that we thought we had purchased excess cover when we hired the vehicle online before we left for Spain only to be charged an extra €100 when we picked the car up.
— Robbo • July 11, 2025Would not accept excess insurance, made you take theirs out at 20 euro a day or wouldn’t hire you a car
— Troy • May 24, 2025These guys are big time hustlers. They’re surely on some serious bonuses if the sell you the Waiver insurance. I have Hired twice now and both times scammed into buying their waiver insurance. Which I don’t need as have annual policy through someone else. First time they said I’d have to pay for a full tank of fuel which was €130 unless I took their waiver insurance which was €80 which seemed ok it cost me €35 to fill the half back up that I had used. So a saving of €15 don’t know how they get €130 for a full tank €70 max in what I had., Next Time I was ready for them as I would be using the car loads so didn’t mind paying for the petrol. But no. The catch now is you need an international driving licence if you don’t take their insurance or you can’t have the car. So there goes another €200. In the back ground I could here another victim who’s Credit card didn’t quite match his info for the car hire profile so now he would have to pay the waiver or not get a car. I have since had clarification from Delpaso head office that your not required to have an international driving licence so I will be persuading them to give me back my money. My advice to you is stay clear. No matter how cheap they seem in the brokers sites that’s just click bait they will end up costing you more than somewhere else that actually gives you good customer service and decent quality cars
— Andreamour • February 21, 2025Rented from dec. 26th 2024 to jan 7th 2025 for 209€, a Volkswagen T-Cross, basic insurance included, 1'500€ deposit plus 167€ (what?!?) for fuel. Brough back the car fuel 100%, with all the scratches that were on the car at the check-in (14 scratches available on my iPhone). They claimed damages (scratches) done to the car 15 min after I gave them back the keys (my pictures timestamp VS they picture names with date-time), and wanted to deduce 193.60€ from the deposit. I do not trust and I will definitely not rent a car from EL PASO Malaga anymore.
— Charlton Heston • January 8, 2025DO NOT use this company. I recommend to anybody thinking of renting a car from DelPaso Car Hire, Malaga, go somewhere else!!! I was charged $171 AUD for 7 days car hire. They then charged me $211 AUD for a tank of full on collection of the car! The car had done 88,000 kms and was in very poor condition! Staff were rude and unhelpful!
— rOUGHY hEAD • October 17, 2024I've rented with Del Paso a number of times over the years, but will NEVER do so again after two rentals where they did rip me off on their add-on insurance, and then a second time where they tried to (although I already have excess cover). Both were similar to incidents reported elsewhere. Incident 1: Did not have International Driving Permit (IDP), so had to take full insurance top-up, or not rental. No choice, as it was late at night. Incident 2 (very recent): Got IDP, so took hire car on cheap rental via a broker (as I usually do). On return, they claimed I had made scratches on corner of bumper - because the many pictures I had taken of the many, many scratches and bumps on the car did not show that particular corner. Let me off paying for these scratches, but told me I had to hire directly from them in future (= paying for the expensive full insurance), not via a broker. When I objected, and found and produced photographic evidence that the scratches in question were there when I picked up the car, they told me curtly not to use them in future. Terrible, rude, pressurising and cheating customer service! Avoid them!!!
— Avoid Del Paso! They'll try to rip you off. • October 5, 2024After booking my car hire and paying for private excess ins which they would not accept, and asked if I had an International driving permit, which according to the Gov.UK website I do not need to drive in Spain with a UK driving licence for up to 6 months. They then asked for 240 euros as I did not have a permit I disagreed with them and the man at the desk said either pay or get a taxi. So I had no option other than pay, left feeling I have been robbed. The car was very tatty loads of scrapes, dents etc which I photographed in case they argues that I had done, them as I now did not trust this company. Dropping the car back just had to hand keys in, and wait for courtesy bus to airport, that was a nightmare 2nd in queue to get on then it was a free for all to get on need to have a better system in place. will never use this company again and I urge people to look at all small print as I am sure what they are doing is illegal, I have a lawyer looking at it for me. Best to hire from Airport and not off site.
— Dor • June 13, 2024Scammed me into paying for their car insurance even though I had already bought online from another company.
— Funky Kong • May 19, 2024AVOID THIS SCAM COMPANY. Paid in advance for an Alfa - got a horrible clunky great 8 seater taxi type vehicle instead, told it was the only car available. We walked round it to check there were no scratches, returned it unscathed. Employee came out to check - he gave the bodywork the quickest glance and went straight to offside front and back plastic trim 6 inches above ground level. Sure enough he found a tiny scratch in both. Had to pay 480 euros - in uk would be 50 quid max. I remonstrated, of course, but the bloke was obviously well practised in ignoring my protests. It looks like they make 4 or 5 hundred euros every time this old bus trundles out on a new hire. A loathsome, rude, deceitful little outfit that in uk would have bit the dust long ago. Nasty - Avoid at all costs.
— Familybloke • May 17, 2024Stay away from this company, they will rip you off with no regrets, read the small letters as they will find a way to not accept your first "cheap reservation" and then charge you lots more so you can have your car.Apart from that the staff are very rude, its like go to hell if not happy.
— Junior • April 16, 2024We were denied service because we asked many questions regarding the terms and services and they were nervous, we then called them a scam and they were very insulted. It seems to me only guilty people would get insulted at this comment 😃. Overall I am thankful they denied service after reading all the horror reviews and experiences!! Do not use this company
— Kas • March 25, 2024Avoid!!!! They make the rules as they go. They tried to force me yesterday to pay for their insurance claiming that I was given a penalty point from my last rental with them! That last time they had me waiting 20 minutes on returning the car outside their office as they were seeing other customers. When their agent attended to me she claimed that I was late! On their rental conditions there is no mention of penalty points forcing to pay their expensive insurance and they also have a grace period of 60 minutes! Although I offered to pay the extra insurance they declined my booking and sent me looking for another company. Then they lied to the broker I booked the car with saying that I presented them with an invalid credit card. They are awful money grabbers and will sting you. AVOID
— Nikaki • November 7, 2023Booked a full full deal on doyouspain only to find that all their bookings default to full empty in the t&c’s. Never again. What a load of hassle. DO NOT USE.
— Phil • April 4, 2023Please don't rent a car with Del Paso… Please don't rent a car with Del Paso Malaga It is a scam. If you don't take the assurance with them (5 days 170 Euro) they ask you to take the car and if you wish to make some pictures. At moment of pick-up was a bit dark. I came back for the car return and I can tell you how happy and quick they were to find a small scratch on the rightside bumber back. Car had almost not moved in 5 days. We are 100% sure not to have bumped into anything. The scratch was underneath very small. 193,60 Euro I had to pay. PLEASE DON'T BOOK with Del Paso. it's a scam. Next one taking the same car, will have to pay the same amount. They profit from the scratch to lift money out of all tourists pockets. The lady checking the car smiled to her collegue. Job well-done. Perfect scam. You don't take an expensive assurance with us? No problem, we let you pay in another way. Disgusting. Internet is full of bad reviews and scam alerts. But they continue their practice ...
— Stefan • March 8, 2023Scammed us at the airport because we did not have an International Driving License and forced us to take their full insurance or face not getting a car. When we paid it - €200 Euro!! - suddenly it was all ok that we didn’t have the International Drivers License. Total robbers. Another 3 people had same issue as us and… if you don’t have a credit card with your FULL name on it then you will face same problem. Don’t use Del Paso car hire is my advice!
— Jillski • September 30, 2022Listen up! So i arrived today at the rental for my car, that I paid up front weeks ago. Ready to pick up the car, the guy tells me the boss has blocked me for rentals as I posted a negative feedback some years ago!! So I stand here with my daughter first day of holiday with no car, and the money they stole I have to fix mysel through a claim! This is totally crazy, and can’t be legal!. Do never trust this company and don’t let them steal your money and destroy your holiday! And btw, the reason for the “negative feedback” I gave some years ago was cause they demanded four times the cost they presented in the beginning. Daniel
— Daniel • August 9, 2022They made me have Excess Insurance at an expensive rate, I already had excess insurance. They told me it is because I did not have an international license.
— Tony • July 30, 2022Extremely good value - upgraded without asking and slick easy service
— Dobo • June 21, 2022
I bought the Reduce my excess insurance in good faith. Delpaso assured me that it might not be any good and the only way they could assure protection of my excess was buying their insurance for €90 for 5 days. If we insisted on not taking their insurance then we would have to take all our own photos and videos of any damage as they were too busy to do it!
— Nikki • April 30, 2022Pulled the 'your credit card does not show your full christian name, initials only- so no good' trick to avoid renting me the car after I declined their costly insurance (for which the same card was acceptable). AVOID!
— MME • March 29, 2020Thanks once again for another first-class car hire last week. Usual quick pick-up at airport and office and very quickly on our way. Always buy the "full pack insurance" so you're covered for absolutely everything. Many thanks to Aby at Delpaso for her usual help and correspondence. Much appreciated. See you again on March 29th Andrew Whitehead
— Andrew Whitehead • March 5, 2020Absolute crooks.. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED..... Unless you fall for their full insurance... You will get shafted !!
— Me • February 19, 2020Staff at both pick up and drop off were the most friendly and helpful I've ever encountered. Unfortunately I don't remember individual names but the woman at pick up quickly showed me to my car, looked over everything with me to make sure I was okay with it, and was very pleasant to deal with.
— Peter Evans • February 19, 2020Good service. Staffs were very friendly. I have gone for full protection and road side assistance as peace of mind was very important for me. Car was in good condition and never had an issue. Pickup and drop off processes were smooth and fast.
— Erik • November 4, 2019If I could give a minus 10 I would. Absolutely deplorable company. We booked a car as we have done previous times. we arrived late due to late flight, however they were issued with flight details when we booked, also we had to wait over 30 mins for the Delpaso bus to collect us . Every thing seemed fine when we got to the desk and all paperwork was given to the agent. He seemed happy, then he started to try to sell us their insurance which we did not want , but he kept pestering us . Eventually when realising we were not going to take the insurance he then said we could not have a car because we were late and also our credit card (which they had taken numerous times before with no problems) was unacceptable as it had only the initials and not full name as per booking. Basically they left us up S##t Street without a paddle very late at night with a disabled child. Dropped us back at the airport to try to find another car. I can only say they is a reason why they are so cheap so if you book with them be prepared to be shafted at one time or another
— Tex • October 9, 2019Good experience. We hired a Fiat Tipo, Car was new and with low miles.
— Anthony66 • October 1, 2019Good experience. All without problems. We will back.
— Alain • September 26, 2019Fantastic car hire place, we have used them a couple of times now and always quick and efficient!! Always best to pay the extra insurance so you can drive stress free. Ignore the bad reviews about extra payment, these are only due to them thinking the can hire a car for 20€ a week which is not possible anywhere else in europe!! Will be using them again in January when we are next over there.
— Amylou • September 25, 2019Good company, with good prices.
— David_56 • September 25, 2019Excellent service. I have rent a new volkswagen golf for less than 5€/day
— John455 • September 23, 2019Great value for money. 100% recommendable
— george22surrey • September 23, 2019Shocking company
— MDent • September 12, 2019Shocking company
— MDent • September 12, 2019My husband and I have used Delpaso Car Hire for years now and been very happy with the service received. We have only had one problem with a car and it was exchanged the same day . The staff are very friendly and helpful and the shuttle bus to and from the airport is every few minutes We hire a car every 4-6 weeks and look forward to our next visit in 2 weeks A. Bentley
— Tondi • August 25, 2019Operating very sharp and unethical practice. On 6/6/2019 I paid online for full insurance through Discover Car Hire and received a voucher for my car hire. Upon arrival at Del Paso Car Hire in Malaga I was told that the voucher (which I'd paid for) was not evidence of having purchased full coverage! I spent some time querying this with the desk operator but he insisted that the voucher was not valid and that I must pay €162 to drive the vehicle fully covered. He said the voucher was just commission. I later contacted Discover Car Hire by phone who confirmed that the voucher was valid and that I should not have been charged more than the outstanding balance (€50) as stated on the paperwork. The voucher provided by Discover Car Hire clearly states that it is supplied by Del Paso Car Hire. Over the following days there were a number of email exchanges between myself and Del Paso Car Hire during which I tried to resolve the issue but at every attempt they refused to acknowledge my voucher. I am now pursuing my claim through Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act as I paid by Credit Card and this is clearly misrepresentation. This is appalling service from Del Paso Car Hire - especially as I had my two children with me - had I not have had my credit card with me they would've left us stranded at the airport.
— Bear77 • August 8, 2019No problems it cost 57pence for a week yes 57pence we couldn’t believe it
— Mopar • July 6, 2019Total scammers avoid at all cost, I would pay a bit extra next time to go with a better more reputable company!! Check other reviews their ‘business’ plan is to totally rip you off when you arrive to collect your card! AVOIDDD Once you arrive to collect your pre-booked car take pictures of every part of the car as they will try and charge you if you don’t have a picture even if the damage was there when up picked the car up. They even check the date and time of when the picture was taken and if it is after 1 hour of collection they won’t accept it! Once you receive your documents shown the condition of the car will show no marks or dents however there will be many issues and they will tell you it’s fine just take pictures. This calm approach is NOT the same when you return the car. They try and force you to pay their insurance €160 even though I had taken this out with an independent broker. They will say it’s €300 for a broken window, €400 for a scratch etc to make your scared! If you don’t take it they will then take a large deposit of €1300 with a further €150 for a ‘Fuel deposit’. The woman at the desk then told me I wouldn’t get this back even though it was a deposit all because I didn’t take their own inflated insurance full. There is a petrol station right next to the hire company to fill the tank up. I even gave the car a wash for €2 to save them moaning about this. At the end it’s not worth the stress for going with the cheaper option! It’s the cheapest price for this reason as they will try and con you once you arrive with many tactics - 0 STARS
— Jerry • May 12, 2019First they came up with their policy of returning the car as empty as possible, so they can charge you a full tank at absurd prices (50 liter tank * diesel €1,24 --> charged € 84) and a 40 euro (!) "fuel admin fee". Then they tried to sell me their insurance. If I didn't take it, I had to take it into account to return the car an hour earlier, because "it had to be thoroughly inspected". They also tried to rent me a Seat full of damage, but luckily I dicovered the heavy damage to the underbody of the vehicle in time. Nobody attended our pick up but if you fail to photograph any of the damage before you leave their parking, you're f...ed.

I can't believe these people are allowed to operate such a scam. Reading through the reviews, I realise it is a well planned act they pull on anyone who doesn't buy Delpaso's own extortionally high priced additional insurance. I arrived with the insurance provided through my hire process ( Ryanair email). Wouldn't take a debit card so decided to use my wife's credit card ( we've been married 21 years). They refused saying it had to be in the driver's name. Asked to change the driver name to myself, offering to pay for admin fees if needed. They didn't want to know. I kept my calm, up to a certain extent, but told them I was being robbed for a technicality. I was then told that the car was not going to be hired to me and that the shuttle would take us back to the airport. No refunds obviously... I didn't want this to happen of course, so had to grovel my way back into their good books, which annoyed me the most, in order not to lose the car and probably a whole day of our mini holiday... Ended up paying the extra 160 pounds for their own insurance. When we got the car, it had a large scratch on the side. I ran back into the office and told them. I was told that they knew and not to worry... I took a dated photo luckily. When we arrived at our friends', we were told countless stories of rip offs by a handful of Spanish companies. I then had a quick read of Delpaso reviews and couldn't believe that a hustle on such a large scale could be legal... Needless to say it slightly tainted my holiday. I now knew that returning the car would be another challenge and wasn't looking forward to it. We decided to get to Delpaso's really early ( meaning we lost quite a few hours of a very precious few days off) in order to return the car. They tried every trick to make us pay for the scratch that was there upon pick up. Luckily I had taken a picture! The plan was obviously to relieve us of the 300 euros deposit. I can see how people would give up easily in order not to miss their flight but having anticipated this, it wasn't our case. Total scammers. I will be doing my homework before hiring now but it shouldn't be that way. The company was linked to a ryanair email. That same ryanair email made us pay for extra insurance, giving the impression it was by the same company... But then coming from Ryanair, I'm only half surprised. I hope one day Delpaso gets taken to court by someone with a bit of time and money or by some type of class action so they can be shown up for what they are...
— phil • April 14, 2019Determined to find small mark and charge for it.... Cheap rental turned out expensive, fortunately I was able to claim on excess insurance.
— Stevie D • April 13, 2019DO NOT USE. Terrible. Long wait & very unpleasant staff & they force you in to buying their rip off insurance & fuel as they alternative is being stuck without a car. Spread the word about avoiding them: no-one should have to be treated like we & everyone in the (very long & angry queue) were.
— Julia • October 24, 2018Not worth 1 star. Booked this company through Expedia with insurance on the vehicle. When arrived at the pick-up (which was 30 minutes away from the airport) they wouldn't let me take the car without purchasing additional insurance from them. Their response: "Maybe you can call your insurance you already purchased and cancel that". Worst service I have received in my life.
— Julio • August 18, 2018They are a fraud, using every trick possible to rip you of.
— Ugo • July 23, 2018- — Verified reviewer • July 23, 2018
Very helpful
— Simon • April 8, 2018PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS. Don’t ruin your holiday before it starts. I honestly think that if Hell has a car hire company in it then it would be Delpaso. Even queuing up I was getting worried. Listening to the conversations. One family in one corner arguing with them about money taken from their account and others, one after the other, being forced into paying for the extra insurance of 185 euros. Staff were saying that any mark or scratch of any kind would be chargeable. Signs overhead saying it would cost 600 euros for a replacement window screen and other signs saying it takes half an hour to return a car so they can examine it. When we finally got to the desk, by now very worried, we told a scary woman we didn’t want their insurance. Her response was to say that my husbands card was not working (even though we successfully used it immediately before and after arriving there) and she wouldn’t take my card (even though the card number etc was the same). She refused to give her name just told us to go away and no we couldn’t have our money back and if we had a problem with that to contact DoyouSpain our broker. So we had no car, we lost 110 euros and there were queues of people everywhere. What a horrible start to a holiday. Nasty, nasty people.
— DELPASO, NASTY, NASTY, NASTY • April 3, 2018Once the hire company realised I already had excess insurance the agent’s tone changed completely and they proceeded to demand a further €1200 deposit on my credit card. On returning the vehicle they tried to charge me for every single knock and scratch on it and only when I produced photographic evidence that the damage was on the vehicle when I picked it up did they back down and refund my deposit. It was clear from the start that they wanted to sell me their insurance policy which, for 3 days hire, was more than the annual policy with Insure My Excess. Delpaso gave poor service, and I would not hire from them again in the future.
— Simon • April 1, 2018Them and us attitude with onus on proof of damage on hirer. Clear implication that extortionate charges would apply as listed in a leaflet unless hire company excess insurance taken. Intimidatory.
— Delboy • February 12, 2018GANGSTERS....On collection of an Opel Corsa with over 60,000km on the clock. I was handed a rental agreement which did not out line any damage to the vehicle and advised by the assistant to record video or photos of any found. There was no requirement for me to point this out to him prior to leaving. The vehicle was in a clean condition and had some minor dents and scratches around the complete vehicle as would be expected of this type of car. I took pictures of the most severe looking damage which was not at all that bad and because it was covered in numerous scratches around the entire car I then produced a short video. My wife who was also present walked around the vehicle and saw scratches and dents. During the weeks rental I was not involved in any accident and did not observe any further dents or scratches caused to the bodywork. On return the vehicle was inspected by a female assistant who informed me that there was further damage caused to the vehicle on both near and offsides. She pointed out to me a dent on the front offside. This was the most serious dent on the vehicle and I had taken a photo of it prior to leaving and she RELUCTANTLY agreed that it was old damage. She was unable to produce any documentation showing what damage was detailed prior to my rental. She then pointed out a scratch (minimal) at the rear right door. I took a photo of this said damage. As there had been numerous scratches I did not have a photo and the video was unable to fully see this because of the sun glare. I informed her that the scratch which in my opinion could be t-cut out was already on the vehicle on collection as also agreed by my wife. The assistant who refused to give me her name only stated that her manager was Alex and did not know his surname. She produced a typed written statement outlining the damage and asked me to sign. As I believed this to be an admission of liability I declined. I was informed that the sum of e300 would be taken from my credit card and that this should be regarded as a smaller sum than required as they stated the damage covered at least two panels and should have been considerably more! Taking into account the amount of other scratches on the vehicle it is very unlikely that they would be making any repairs. I have rented numerous vehicles throughout England and Spain over the years and have never experienced such a blatant attempt to procure money falsely. As I had an annual excess policy I had not taken out there insurance at over e125. The cost of the rental via enjoy car hire on line was e33.61. Another male assistant whom I initially dealt with on collection stated “What do you expect for 34 euro?”. I am of the belief that this WHOLE CHARADE was because I had not taken out their insurance. Following making written complaints and threatening them with the credit card disputes team they reimbursed the e300.......NEVER AGAIN.
— Gangsters...never again • July 22, 2017If you do not take out the full insurance with Delpaso it is your responsibility to take as many photos of the car as possible before taking it away from the site. If you miss the slightest scratch they will charge you €363 per scratch. If you are picking the car up at night it is very difficult to see every single mark on the car...but on return if you don't have a photo taken on pick up of a scratch they find, they will charge you! I took 25 photos. They found two scratches I did not have photos for. I was charged. I have used them before and paid the full insurance and it was no problem. They do not check cars with full insurance when you take them back. Therefore the onus on anyone using reduce my excess is to do a thorough search of the car for the slightest scratch or damage before you leave delpaso premises. This can take over an hour. So my advice is...take the full insurance with delpaso or be prepared to waste over an hour taking photos of every bit of the car. I'm still waiting for reduce my excess to reply to my claim after 8 days. At the moment I don't know if they will refund my €363 so my verdict is don't use delpaso unless you take their full insurance as I can't comment on whether or not paying £40 to reduce my excess was worth it. I will either get a refund through reduce my excess or I am out of pocket by £400. It would have been easier, less hassle and stress to have just paid the £100 insurance with delpaso.
— Karen B • June 23, 2017Fleeced by Del Paso. They "found" two very minor blemishes on the office doors (so small I couldn't successfully photograph the "damage") and then charged me 750 Euros for the repairs!
— Convert to Malagacarhire.com • June 23, 2017Excellent product and service. Don't waste money purchasing overseas as it will cost you! A definite must and comes highly recommended!
