Customer reviews for Drivalia
Friendly, efficient and helpful. Car had a no. Of external scratches all noted prior to collection but was clean and these did not detract from the hire experience
— Andrew Morgan • July 1, 2026Fair price. Used this company in Spain. Car was clean and reliable, small enough to park easily.
Drivalia staff were kind and friendly and did their best to help.— Alison Whitelegg • July 1, 2026Booked and paid for my car via carjet. Downloaded the documents and they clearly state I have 4 hours to collect my car. Arrived 1 hour 15 late and was told my booking was cancelled and my car given to someone else. They refused to abide by the terms given to me by carjet. Refused to hive me another car unless I paid an additional 140 pounds. Spent 3 hours trying to resolve this. They are not helpful and basically don't care. Even better, the complaint procedure is designed to block you at every turn and you never manage to resolve the issue.
— Verified reviewer • May 19, 2026Excellent team that went above and beyond. I hope to use Drivalia Newcastle again as they were superb.
— Thingy • November 27, 2025Provided a very nice, clean little car. Staff were helpful and professional. Location leaves a bit to be desired as it is offsite from the airport via a free bus transfer but that’s fine if you aren’t in a hurry!
— Ben • October 12, 2025Complete scam, our flight was delayed, when we got to the car hire desk they claimed that the economy car that I had hired was no longer available and an upgrade that was considerably more expensive was the only option available. This also happened to numerous other people whilst we were there one couple were forced to pay hundreds more as they had no other option.
— Christine • October 1, 2025Take your money and don't rent a car... Lies, take money, no car, no refund - isn't that stealing? I booked a car for 11.30am at Gatwick Airport for 3 days and arrived by train there at 12.04am, I went straight away to the Drivalia office, via the north terminal shuttle. On arrival there the chap with the hairband says I'm late. I say I didn't realise you could be late picking up (I understand you can be late dropping off, but if you've paid for 3 days it doesn't make sense). However there's other customers in front of me so queue for half an hour to be properly served. I'm then told I'm late, my booking is cancelled, and the only cars they have are more expensive suv's, no budget ones now available, and that I have to pay double. But on Drivalia website there are budget cars available. I say this to the rep, he leafs through some car keys in a box, as if checking and says - no, none available. I call Drivalia reservations who confirm that there are budget cars available too - and that my booking is still live. I think I've just been lied to repeatedly to try to upgrade me to more expensive cars, with various ruses employed to do it. I'm not sure that I was late to the office. Admittedly I had to look for the office a little but headed straight there, don't think I'd have taken 25mins from Gatwick Airport station. There's no mention of having to be within an hour on the confirmation email. I walk away, because I'm too worried about hiring a car from this company, who knows what further surprise charges there'll be. Unfortunately you can't get a refund on prepaid bookings it says on the website and the rep said. It seems to be - accept the lies to con you or lose your money and no car. I spoke to customer services on the phone. They said send a message to their messaging service on 'Manage my booking'. I've now done that and been told no refund, er I think my £53 was just stolen.
— Drummond • September 26, 2025Office was very busy and could have done with more staff, had to wait at least 30 minutes before being seen to. I took a video of all the scratches and marks before leaving the car park, when I returned the car I had to show the video to prove a scratch was on the car when I picked it up, and it hadn’t happened whilst in my possession.
— Shuntysgal • September 18, 2025We hired a car from Drivalia Belfast on 17th August with the maxiumum available coverage and waiver online for 8 days. We had a collision on 18th August, noone got injured, but the car was badly damaged and we had a terrible shock. We lost all our accommodation as we were not porovided by a replacement car. There was no roadside assistance and the company was not picking up the 24 hr helpline. since then I received a charge of 230 GBP, which I queried but paid, and then now a c 15000 GBP charge which is payable within 10 days. 1. Excess Waiver Purchased At the time of booking I purchased the Full cover with Super Relax waiver, which I understood should remove my liability for repair costs beyond the agreed excess. See attached confirmation email. Drivalia already charged me £230 (labelled as £150 excess + £80 admin fee). That should represent the maximum liability under the cover purchased. On 29th August 2025, during a telephone conversation I was informed that no further claim would be made beyond this amount. I also hold a screenshot from your system (see attached) confirming that £150 is the maximum excess applicable, consistent with the Super Relax cover I purchased. 2. No Evidence of Negligence I was not fined or prosecuted by police for any such conduct, and therefore I see no evidence to void the waiver. Drivalia assessed internally that I was found with gross negligence. There is no independent assessment on this available. 3. No Breakdown of Costs & Scrapping Admission They demand for £14,900, providings no repair invoices, cost breakdown, or supporting documentation. The state without dopcumentation that this is coming from their Balance Sheet (internal Finance document). 4. Concerns of Administrative Error Given that I purchased Super Relax, that I was charged £230, and that your own system confirms £150 as the maximum excess, I am concerned that the correct cover may not have been applied when the car was collected. If so, this would represent an internal administrative error on Drivalia’s part. I cannot accept liability for the consequences of such an error. 5. Lack of Transparency & Consumer Impact Throughout this matter there has been a lack of clarity and transparency in the information provided: • The website and protection documents are confusing and inconsistent, and key terms are not clearly explained. • The rental contract is not retrievable on your own portal, which prevents customers from verifying their coverage. We never received the original signed contract at the time of the collection, 17th August, only post dated documents. • Communication from your team has been fragmented, contradictory, and often unhelpful. • Furthermore, I was presented with “new” contracts showing my electronic signature and future dates, which I never signed nor authorised. This raises serious concerns about the integrity of your documentation. These failures have created unnecessary stress and confusion for me as a consumer, and your inability to provide clear documentation and support has had a direct negative impact. 6. Concerns About the Demand In light of the above, I do not believe this demand has been substantiated or that it reflects the cover purchased. l escalated my complaint to the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) and my credit card provider for a formal dispute of charges.
— Scammed • September 16, 2025Excellent value- we hired an electric car for a fortnight and it was great! The company personnel were friendly and helpful.
— ChrisT • August 12, 2025The vehicle was not clean when I picked it up. It felt like the last to use it had just left a moment before I collected it. No one explained anything to me, there was no safety equipment with the vehicle as required by Italian law - Hi-viz jackets, first aid kit etc. I later found that there was a defective front headlight and the rear wiper blade was perished. The vehicle was given to me with barely any fuel a policy that needs to change to tank full to tank full. I will not use them again.
— Al • July 20, 2025Used them for the last 3 years and would use again no hassle with them great vans
— Diddy • July 19, 2025The car was dirty and not been valeted The petrol tank was only quater full
— Michelino • July 14, 2025Avoid Drivalia – dishonest damage charges and zero communication I rented a car from Drivalia in Pisa. A visible scratch on the front bumper was already noted in their own check-out report, and I even documented it myself with photo and video while still in their parking lot. Despite this, they later attempted to charge me €138 for the exact same damage. Worse yet, they ignored my email with evidence and sent a bill without any response or explanation. This kind of conduct is unacceptable. I strongly advise against using Drivalia – if something goes wrong, you’re on your own.
— Anders • July 7, 2025Excellent service received both on collection and return. Lovely brand new vehicle. Thank you
— Micky • June 29, 2025Very easy check in / out, car very nice, possibly best experience with a car hire firm ever
— Mikeg • June 28, 2025I got penalty charge notice for dartford crossing of 2,5 pounds - ive paid it immediately and send them confirmation. They took 50 pounds of admin fee that is not possible to get back - they call it admin fee for sending an e-mail i guess. This is just a scam to get additional money for missing payment that can happen when you visit a different country. No emails with confirmation from transport department that it's paid and closed helped. Avoid those sneaky basterds - they give low charges for rental but leech on additional payments.
— Tomek • June 25, 2025Car was a Ford Focus (as booked) with 57,000 km on the clock, dented on the front, one side badly, and virtually every corner damaged. I was charged an unexpected extra for being over 75. I was also told I would have to pay €250 if the car needed breakdown assistance.
— GMT • June 24, 2025The desk staff were friendly and tried to be helpful, however their computer system did not work efficiently. On arrival we asked for an extra driver to be added to the rental. We presented all the necessary documents and means of payment but their system would not respond to the driver details. We waited an hour in the 30 degree heat for them to sort this out. We had ordered a fiat estate to accommodate four adults and luggage. They gave us a DR7 large chinese suv with the turning circle of an oil tanker. It was dirty and covered in small scratches and dents and unsuitable for the twisty roads of Tuscany. They could not provide a copy of the damage status in English, just Italian and sent by email. Consequently it was difficult to know what we were being asked to sign. After returning we were sent an invoice for an additional 80 euros plus tax, again in Italian, with no explanation what it was for..
— Romanamphitheatre.co.uk • June 21, 2025They are con merchants. They quoted £225 for 2 weeks hire. When the car was collected by my customer they demanded a further £375 for excess cover. DO NOT USE THEM. USE A PROPER COMPANY INSTEAD.

— Fino • June 8, 2025TERRIBLE/ DISSHONEST AND TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THEIR STRANDED CUSTOMERS
— NICK • May 30, 2025TERRIBLE/ DISSHONEST AND TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THEIR STRANDED CUSTOMERS
— NICK • May 30, 2025Efficient, effective and I cruelly got a better car than I expected
— SteveH • May 27, 2025Everything was just so easy! The staff at Drivalia were very good and efficient when I arrived to start the rental. The car was an easy drive and comfortable. The satnav was great, and the car was light on fuel usage. For my next trip I will certainly be looking at Drivalia for a rental car.
— Poppycorn • May 11, 2025Good value. Friendly service but IT issues added delay to collection and the car was not ideal MG3 (not particularly similar to a Polo apart from the size and it had over and under inflated tyres.
— The Exorcist • May 1, 2025Terrible! This company is a scam. Rented a car which was dirty when I picked it up. I actually cleaned the inside and out the day I received it. I was a lone female traveller and when I dropped the car at Heathrow before I even got out of the car a large man was at the driver window literally screaming at me that I had wrecked the car and was 'going to have tpo pay for all the damage'. There was zero damage to the car, but I was trapped in their office for 2 hours arguing with them to prove the damage they wanted to charge me for. I had 3 large men standing over me and shout at me demanding I sign and accept the huge charges they wanted me to pay, They kept me trapped there for so long I nearly missed my flight.

— Jonny5050 • April 27, 2025Van in good state, decent help from the staff, reasonable price

— Banksy • March 26, 2025I paid Holiday Autos £360 to hire a car in August from Birmingham Airport. My flight was delayed. Drivalia knew this. But when I went to collect the car they demanded a further £240 They claimed to have rented my car to someone else, despite knowing my flight was delayed. They refuse to refund my£240 Do not use.
— Dave • October 23, 2024One of the most garbage companies I have ever seen in my life . I got a ticket of 30 Pound but they charged me 85 because they have 55 fees for the company . double the government charges , LOL they are fishing people and i will come after them in all the social and google searches as well.
— dukhan • September 12, 2024TOTAL SCAM. COMPLETELY FRAUD.
— Khurram • August 27, 2024- — Verified reviewer • August 27, 2024
Rang phone number to say we were at airport. Told to wait and someone would collect us. 30 mins later still waiting so rang again. Told someone was coming and to wait. 30 mins later still standing outside arrivals in the rain waiting. Rang again as previously told driver would ring us but no phone call received. Finally collected 1 hour 10 mins after first calling! Apologetic but by now we are fed up and tired. Supposedly given x2 upgrade on car by way of apology but by now it’s early evening on a Friday and there literally only 2 cars left to go out both of which would have been a supposed upgrade so we think it was going to happen anyway. The next morning the car is telling us low tyre pressure in one tyre so had to go to garage, pay and check and re inflate tyre. On car return tole Drivalia who had no interest and hyped on about sensors being over sensitive but tyre was well down. Don’t believe that cars are checked and maintained that well. Not inspired and would not use them again sadly as the price was reasonable but no worth the aggrivation
— Fion • August 9, 2024Every single staff member is a liar, nothing can be trusted. They gave our car away that we had prepaid for and then wanted to charge more for the next suitable car. Said no refunds due it being prepaid. Said would swap car out the next day but then they will not answer the phone. When they finally did (legit 40 calls in a single day to get them to answer) they said they had nothing suitable. Head office is utterly useless - they are unable to help, escalate nor contact anyone on your behalf. Honestly the worst company I have ever dealt with.
— Avoid Drivalia • August 6, 2024Beware of charges for non existent damages... Rented a van from Drivalia depot in Speke in June 2024. Returned it the same day and, upon return, it was inspected by a Drivalia employee who confirmed all was in order, I had caused no damage to the van, and there would be nothing further to pay. Six weeks later a charge appeared on my account for "windscreen damage" that was categorically not there when I returned the van. I contacted the Speke depot who referred me to the website to raise a customer service query, I won't hold my breath. Avoid at all costs
— Stephen H • August 4, 2024
Absolutely awful. We will have to make a claim and we have not damaged the car. Do not use this company. It's an absolute scam. If you don't use their car insurance to protect your access they will scam you! We were assured that they would send us their photos of the car and where the marks are in a document. They didn't. They assure you that and scratches have to be more than 6 cm before they will charge you and then they go back on it. We picked up the car in the rain so it was really difficult to take clear photos. There was no way we had scratched the car. It had been parked in a private driveway and we were extremely careful with it. When we returned the car the check-in guy knew exactly where to look for the tiny scratch. Once he's found it he didn't look at the restvof the car properly. He was so FAKE. He knew exactly what he was doing!!! I would never use them again. I suspect if you don't take out the extra insurance they give you an older car with tiny scratches on that they can easily remove with a bit of wd40. I ve never had to post such an awful review. We are waiting for the credit card company to give us a statement so that we can now claim through reduce my access
— Absolutely awful • June 27, 2024Complete scam if you don't take there excess insurance which is more than twice the high cost. They will get the money andmore off you. Don't ever use them, don't believe the other reviews.
— Mr Unhappy • June 20, 2024Hello, first of all do not rent a car from this company. Worst car rental company I have ever seen. Definitely stay away.
— Angel • June 13, 2024Great value, lovely staff, great car
— Great value • June 3, 2024This company are fraudsters. They took almost £300 from my credit card without any explanation despite telling me everything was fine. They are unscrupulous and untrustworthy. The car we had was in poor repair and without screen wash or properly functioning windscreen wipers. The office is not at the airport and their opening times do not align with flight times, in spite of them advertising themselves as an airport car hire company. Many of the 5* reviews on Trustpilot were (I assume) are fake and were written by employees since they do a great job of telling us how helpful the named staff are (who knows the name of the person who gave them the keys to a rental car?!). Avoid like the plague.
— Stan • May 13, 2024We rented a car with the highest assurance (tyres included). On May 2nd we had a tyre broken at 10pm, we called the assurance and they told us that a recovery team will come in an hour. At 3 am after more than 50 calls as we were with two children, they admit nobody would come and that they will arrange a taxi for as. That never happened and we stayed in the car until 7am when a nice lady living near there took as to our hotel. Drivalia was not answering our calls anymore and taxis were not available during the night in Newcastle Emlyn (Wales) where this took place. The recovery team called us at 14pm and fixed the car for 15pm. Don't trust Drivalia, an of course don't trust their assurance service.
— basque traveller • May 6, 2024Unfriendly staff, service almost non-existent, and a scam with the rate including the deposit... Here is the summary of my experience with Drivalia at Birmingham airport. The shuttle driver who picked us up from the airport barely spoke or looked at us, and stayed warm behind the wheel, while my wife and I had to load our luggage into the trunk ourselves, under our 2-year-old daughter's gaze. We had opted for a baby seat (which doubled the rental price), and it was so kindly placed at the other end of the parking lot, waiting for us to come and retrieve it... From afar, it looked sad, alone, lost. I could have overlooked all this if the rate agreed upon in advance had been respected... except that we were forced to pay €250 instead of the planned €100. I'm used to renting cars during my frequent trips in France and abroad (including England): same Visa Premier card, always with a deposit. Except that this time, they were unable to take the deposit on this card due to the notion of a "debit" card instead of a "credit" card, a concept that does not apply to France (among others)... But no problem, they had a solution: A no-deposit package, 2.5 times more expensive! What a commercial coincidence :) I had gone through DiscoverCars.com to rent this vehicle, and they did not want to know. Publicly, in response to my review on Trustpilot, they offered a full refund, but in reality, privately, they imposed €30 in vouchers on me... A slight difference between the image they want to project publicly and the reality. At best, they are victims like me, at worst they are complicit (more likely). Of course, I contacted Drivalia before leaving this review, but I received no response from them after more than two weeks, knowing that they received the message. Conclusion: first and last time with Discover Cars and Drivalia. Advice: Stay away!
— mikb • April 1, 2024Great service, excellent car. This is the second time I have used Drivalia and I would certainly use them again.
— Philip • January 5, 2024Just a few minutes wait for bus transfer from airport to Drivalia site.Served quickly upon arrival. Our vehicle - an Opel Vivaro, had quite a lot of scratches & scrapes but all were noted on the paperwork we received. Other than a damaged lock on the side door (again noted on the paperwork), the interior of the vehicle was fine. Return of vehicle and transfer back to the airport went smoothly.
— JLS On Tour • December 30, 2023Worst experience ever! I rented a car from 29/07/23 to 02/08/23. My Rental Agreement was 57755 HG 290723 Pickup was in a filthy parking lot close to Roma Termini train station. The car was dirty and only filled with 2/8 gas tank. The papers were filled but corrected this 2/8 by hand. The car broke the same day, some 300 km away. Fortunately it was just a loose battery connector. After I gave the car back with 3/8 gas tank, I received a fuel charge of 95,89 EUR !! I tried to contact the company and it was impossible. I filled the form in Drivalia web page, but received no answer after 3 months. There was not even a confirmation of my claim (quite suspicious, eh?). I found an email address (customer service ,com) and complained again, but received also no confirmation and no answer. If this was not enough, I received an additional charge of 40 EUR a month later for a traffic fine they never showed! And another 20 EUR charge 2 months later, same reason. I would never rent a car with Drivalia, I got scammed.
— CarHireExpert • October 31, 2023Excellent value. Speedy transfer to airport
— Fee • October 30, 2023ago Worst experience ever in over 40 years of renting cars for holidays. Staff is uninformed and rude. Car we were given developed an oil leak which forced us to end our holiday a couple of days early because we wanted to make sure we could get back to Gatwick and make our flight without breaking down on the roadside. Took 3 hours to get through on the phone to a staff member to see what we could do. We were informed we could exchange the car at Stanstead which was 60 miles from where we were staying and only a few miles from where we originally rented it. Found out later we could have changed it only 8 miles away from where we were, but the staff member didn't know that. When dealing with the staff member they kept talking over us and finally cut us off. We returned the car a day early and asked for a one day refund and were refused, and follow up emails have been completely ignored. Rent from Drivalia at your peril. If we could give zero stars we would.
— Sue • October 25, 2023Great friendly service, good car, no hassle pick up and drop off to the airport
— Rossa • September 20, 2023Car on off airport site
— Singleton • September 18, 2023First class service.
— Bobo • September 18, 2023horrible experience - no solutions offered when there's an issue. Road assist is non existent, I have been put on hold 3-4 times for 30 minutes after they just disconnect the line. Customer service is somewhat friendly, but they can't offer solutions, they will keep transferring you to departments where no one picks up.
— SL • July 21, 2023Happy to accept the offered electric Renault Zoe which was a pleasure to drive for the relatively short journey required. We did not take the excess insurance but left a deposit of £1500 on a credit card. But nowhere was it stated that this can take up to 28 days to be returned. This is entirely unnecessary and has soured an otherwise excellent experience.
— Ian • May 19, 2023Hidden costs. Unhelpful staff. AVOID AVOID AVOID.
— Ben • March 27, 2023Good quality cars (a hybrid Fiat 500 for 2 of us), vey efficient and straightforward process. Only marked down from 10 stars because they are located off the airport , but the shuttle bus service to and fro was also quick and efficient.
— Mikkel • September 26, 2021Drivalia, now LEASYS just a few minutes off the airport. Very nice and friendly, Very easy to find and return car
— Kate • July 19, 2021
Rude staff and dealt with 5 of them from pick up to delivery. Never again. Tried to force their insurance and i already had excess ins.
— Duff rental • November 2, 2020Thieves. Under absolutely no circumstances you should book a car with them. I just did, and it was a €600 mistake. I had an insurance through a third party. I had an issue with a wheel. I called Drivalia and they told me to contact their road assitance. The service was great, they came within 15 minutes. But guess what, because I was more than 150km from their office, they charged me €600!!! It doesn't make ANY sense at all. They called a local guy, who was there super fast. There is no link between the distance to the office and the price charged. TOTAL NONSENSE. STAY AWAY!
— Carlos • October 24, 2020Absolutely shocking company. Make sure you get an emergency phone number other than Road Assistance. The car I was given had a flat battery. Problems. From the start. It was impossible to get hold of any staff, and had to resort to road assistance for which they are trying to obtain 250 euros for their phone call. The staff have all been very rude, I have not been believed that there was any fault to the vehicle. They just seem interested in extracting money from me even though they provided no service. They even refused to take us to the airport on our return. We are both in 70s and I am on crutches.
— J from UK • September 21, 2019Excellent service, easy to order online.
— Physio-Man • August 19, 2019Conned me into taking SCDW (Super Collision damage waiver) despite arguing the toss of having reduce my excess !
— jcw • August 12, 2019Thieves are tghey. They sell you an extra insurance which you don't need. And you have to pay a lot for it. If you don't take it, you will pay a lot of extras when you bring the car back. Beware for this company. Look at the internet for all the reviews.
— mark • August 9, 2019Frequent shuttle from airport to off-site depot. Clean cars. Good value.
— Roger • June 12, 2019SCAM RENTAL COMPANY WITH ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE 1. The advertised price is not the actual price, there is an extra hidden refuelling charge of €30. Lovely 2. When picking up the car the staff member did not check the car for damage, even though I checked it myself I'm no expert so I did not notice a tiny 1cm scuff on the back bumper near the boot. When we returned the car 2 staff members spent 15min checking every inch of the car for damage. They found this tiny scuff and then proceeded to charge me €180 for the damage. I never even opened the boot, this damage was clearly caused by luggage. Thanks a lot 3. The €2000 deposit which was blocked on my credit card was never unblocked, which I found out only 2 weeks later when my card was being declined even though spending was no where near the limit. Called the office and of course no one speaks English. When I finally explained what is the problem the staff member basically said "I have client call later" and hung up the phone. Fantastic SCAM RENTAL COMPANY WITH ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE
— Timmy • August 18, 2018Newish car. Return inspection carried out within minutes of return and no problems.
— Dave • October 10, 2017Good car hire company would use again
— Fire86 • September 22, 2017Very helpful. and to the point
— Cheapskate • September 14, 2017With buying my own excess policy I saved over £100 off the main car hire company's charge. Totally recommend this company.
