This was the first time I had gone 'off airport' at BFS and to be honest I was attracted by the low price I had secured online six weeks previously. We were collected from the terminal and taken to the site a couple of miles away. The rep commented we had got a very good price for the car. There were no Fiestas available, so I had a Seat Leon Sport instead. There seemed to be far more rules and regulations associated with the fuel arrangement for returning the car full than with Sixt or Enterprise at the airport itself, so I agreed to buy the full tank for £60. I handed over all documents required for the hire and put a pre-authorisation of £1250 on my credit card. The rep then presented the extra charges to cover any damage to the car. These were on a scale from £250, £150 and £99, if my memory serves me correctly. I said I was covered by my own policy taken out with this company. He said that the policy was not worth the paper it was written on and that I would need a police report to be able to claim. He said that the police in NI would not come out to a damage only RTA. Although shaken by this, which I felt was a very hard sell tactic, I stood my ground, saying I was confident in the cover offered by my policy and that I had used a range of different companies over the years when hiring vehicles. The words, 'No one leaves here without this insurance' were uttered by the employee, but I was adamant I was not handing over another penny. As it was Friday night I was unable to seek reassurance there and then. However, a call to the 'reduce my excess' office after the weekend did restore my faith in the product. I was advised not to say I have a policy, just to refuse the non compulsory one being offered. I was told this company would pay out with an invoice only from the car company and that a police report was not needed. Nevertheless I was furious at my experience when hiring. As a result I was far less confident with the car and was dying to get rid of it. I arranged to return it at a time more convenient to me and fortunately everything was found to be in order. A different employee was involved in the checkout process. I heaved an almighty sigh of relief to get the yellow form signed off by the company. Avoid, avoid, avoid! You will have a better experience elsewhere.
