Bought the excess policy couldn't be easier wished I done it years ago. The car hire company was all nice until I told them I had my own excess they tried to scare me about £1000 to come of credit card then tried to scare my wife but I just told him no I have my own excess they eventually with held £249 on my credit card just make sure you take pictures of any damage and be ready to show the company rep before you take car and have same picture ready for when you return. The excess insurance is much cheaper to buy before you go 16.50 euros a day from car hire company I paid £39 for the year it's a no brainer. Ignore the car hire companies when they say you are not covered my excess covered a lot more than I needed.
