We used Lavaauto.is to rent a four wheel drive in Iceland ( we booked through a company called Northbound and got a good discount rather than going direct). After reading many reviews about different companies and some dreadful tactics that car hire companies have pulled on their customers decided to go with a small company and purchase minimal expensive insurance in Iceland, but instead rely on Reduce My Excess to cover us if any sharp practices were being pulled. On arrival at Keflavik Airport the Lavaauto rep was nowhere to be seen, but having read reports on the internet was not surprised, so a quick phone call to their office 5 minuets away and they picked us up in no time at all. A few minuets to do the paperwork and to decline all the added insurances, then a look around the vehicle and note every single piece of damage and some photo's then we were on our way in a vehicle with 5000km on the clock. During the hire we had no problems at all with the vehicle took it offroad and on the gravel roads with no damage being sustained on return a quick check the tank was full and then a lift back to the airport for the end of the holiday. No problems at all and no attempt to extract any further money from us so all in all an easy and satisfying car rental with nothing to worry about and the best price for a 4X4 saving almost half the price of the large international car hire companies.
