Locauto
Customer reviews for Locauto
Reliable service, with friendly and helpful staff members. Highly recommended.
— Gab68 • November 8, 2025They were disappointing, Group M car description was misleading, advertised a Jeep and provided a Seat Arona Hard sell on the insurance cover, including whether vandalism was included in my excess cover, and upgrade on the breakdown cover.
— Sardine • September 19, 202530 minute queuing at the pickup counter (only one staff member) wasn’t an ideal start but after that everything was excellent. Efficient admin, friendly and no upselling. Thorough walk around of the car with staff member to familiarise with the car and agree any existing damage. Car type was as booked, clean and well maintained. Quick, easy and friendly return procedure and repeat walk around. Email receipt confirming satisfactory condition and no additional charges supplied immediately.
— Stewart • September 12, 2025Staff were fine but not overly helpful. Returning car was nightmare not clearly signposted. I got out the car to as the colleagues at the return desk & they were not helpful. Once we eventually got the car returned the colleagues who checked us back in was really friendly.
— Prh19 • August 3, 2025Online booking was straightforward and easy. Pickup and return rapid. Helpful staff
— Mark • July 27, 2025Easy pick up/drop off. No hassles
— kelsobrian • July 3, 2025Efficient, courteous and a smart newish car which did the job perfectly.
— Pee Bee • June 14, 2025Good service, only hassle was returning it to the airport at Milan. Problem with the airport parking (not their responsibility) but maybe could have given clearer instructions for where to return. Would have been a problem if we had been on a tight timetable.
— Henry • March 27, 2025Terrible company, have been charged Eu580 for the most minor damage, barely noticeable that I had pointed out to them upon pickup. Their staff pretended to amend the paperwork and photograph the damage upon pickup but later produced 'unamended' paperwork to prove their claim. Thieves, do not use.
— Fred • September 23, 2024Good service but car was a bit scruffy - had done 50,000km
— Douglas B • July 30, 2024BEWARE - THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOR DAMAGE YOU HAVEN'T DONE IF YOU DON'T HIGHLIGHT EVERY TINY BLEMISH. I hired a car for a week and literally only drove it twice - to the resort and back to the airport. We nearly missed our flight because the car battery was flat when we went to leave so had to find someone with leads to jump start us, and there was a worrying warning to stop all the way to Catania airport. I literally had to run from the rental office to make the flight but the check in guy said all was OK. 4 hours later I got an email claiming €400 for a scratch on a wheel. Firstly I only drove on A roads and 100% definitely didn't do it. Secondly a full wheel refurb costs about €60 not €400. They also said there was no fault with the car despite me showing the check in guy the warning on the dash. Maybe my fault for missing the small mark on the wheel when we collected but it was really hot and the guy was distractingly chatting as I walked around - also they should have marked it on the check out paperwork if it was chargeable. So just beware if you use this mob to ensure every little blemish is photographed and noted on your docs.
— Charlie62 • July 11, 2024Double price, half a big car! Never again! Beware, they will trick you!
— Zoltán • October 31, 2023Very quick pick up through their Smart Checkin. Avoided the airport desk & could go straight to the car park. Speedy check on return. All good
— FSChester • October 9, 2022Friendly efficient operation
— sh • September 29, 2022Pre-Paid and arranged prior to getting to the airport. All paperwork ready to agree and sign. Once I said I had excess cover there was no hard sell. The car had been checked and all issues agreed. No issues on return. Very satisfied.
— Ruby Rust • September 20, 2022The worst experience EVER !!! This people are CONMEN. I booked a FIAT PANDA. They asked me if I want extra insurance or just basic…and I went with basic. Afterward, they asked me if I wish an ulgrade to a better car, an Audi A3 for only 3 euro, for being their customer for the first time. I agreed, went to the parking lot and checked the car. It had minor scratches on the bidy which I acknowledge. when I brought back the car, they checked thoroughly and after 15 minutes found a 0.5 cm SCRATCH on the windshield. I could barely notice it, even in the light. They said that this was damage caused by myself, that the windshield had to be fully replaced and that my insurance doesn’t cover it. And guess what ?? My deposit was for 500 € and the cost of the damage was 495 €. I swear that this people pulled one of the ugliest and meanest tricks. this is their agency in Treviso airport, so please AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!!
— Mortiimatii • September 13, 2021I hired a car at Pisa - unfortunately on the motorway I was forced to the side of the road by a dangerous italian driver swerving in front of me. There was very slight damage to the car from running over the motorway edge markers. Locauto charged €280 + €70 fees but that didn't worry me as I had full insurance. However when I asked for photos of all the claimed damages, they kept sending me photos that did not show the damage! Eventually I got the needed photos and my insurers paid the claim. Then I got demands from a debt collection agency for €431- Locauto had passed the case on to them after I had paid! They are still pursuing me 3 months after the incident.
— Chris • December 26, 2020Scammers I arrived at Milano airport at Jan 15 and then I booked a car online with my Visa debit card which was charged 166 EUR. After 30 minutes I'm at their office to receive the car and they say that they need 500 EUR insurance via credit card and not debit card. I said I only have the debit card with me and so they cancelled my reservation and they said they will refund me and no further action is required. So I took a taxi and left the airport. 4 months later they still didn't refund me and I contacted them and they say they will keep the money!!!!!!!!!! This is steal. They said I didn't have a credit card and I had a debit card with me and it's not acceptable and based on their policy is to keep my money for giving me nothing. Scammers. I already applied for a charge back and let's see what visa will say now.
— Athanasios Kaloutsas • May 5, 2020We had a very good experience. The check in and check out were swift and efficient. I had read mixed reviews for the company but couldn't fault them. The car was brand new with no damage before or after we rented. That made check in very easy.
— loseapoint • March 1, 2020Thought I’d post a review on here as I managed to get my money back from these thieves. So back in sept 2019 booked car hire through a UK broker called Zest that indicated the car hire was with Alamo. Anyway fast forward to landing and making my way to the car rental area, and then I saw the Alamo sign but also the name Locauto. Straight away the alarm bells were ringing as I’d read a lot of bad reviews. Anyway I got the usual sales pressure about their super insurance but I always sort this in the UK, as the costs are a rip off. Anyway it’s dark I check the car over and to be fair it looked fine. So off we go to our apartment and to be fair when I checked over on the following morning there wasn’t anything obviously wrong, so that was that. About half way through the week I noticed the key fob needed me to be closer and closer to the car before it would unlock it. At that point my minds thinking it’s just the battery in the key fob, and then for the last day or so it stopped working and I just had to use the key to lock and unlock the car. So at the point of returning the car, this is where it went bad. So I’d filled the car with fuel, there was no bodywork damage, only that the key fob had stopped working. Straight away the rep is trying to say I’ve damaged it/ been in the sea with the keys in my pocket. I explained that vehicle maintenance isn’t the hirers responsibility and when signing the paperwork off I wrote ‘ No Damage ‘ and got their rep to sign off the paperwork. At this point I said I want a copy of the paperwork as I had a feeling this wasn’t the end of it. So after 2 months I notice a charge on my credit card from Locauto for €250. So I contact my credit card company and ask what is it, they say vehicle damage. So then Locauto have a complaints website, which I filled out my grievance. Short version is they said initially I’d lost the keys , then I’d damaged the keys, then a garage report appeared saying water damage to the key. The report I’m sure was bogus as it was dated the day after I returned the car but in the dispute with them, this report didn’t appear until 2 months of back and forth emails. It took a huge effort to demonstrate to my credit card company that this was a fraudulent transaction, but finally I got the money refunded. I think what made my case justified was I wrote the ‘no damage’ on the car return paperwork, and their rep signed, thus nullifying their you signed at the point of hire to pay for any damage Basically avoid these f******s like the plague

We were quite nervous about hiring a car abroad for the first time, but it was a very positive experience. The staff were friendly and spoke excellent English, making everything clear. The car was clean and well maintained. We would definitely use Locauto again.
— John B • October 3, 2019We found Locauto staff to be very efficient, the car we hired was a bit bland but it was fit for purpose, I would have given full marks if it had less scratches on it and had covered less kilometres (20,000)
— Runningscania • September 16, 2019DO NOT book anything with Interrent or Gold Car! They are the same company and will try to scam you whenever possible. Costumer service is terrible as they will never reply to your emails. Recently I have hired a car at the Malaga airport. I have booked previously online and when I arrived at the Interrent office everything was ok and the car was ready to go. The employee asked me a few details, driving licence etc and then asked me to pay a deposit of 200€. I then asked him what was the deposit for and he told me that it would be for the petrol and then everything would be refunded once the car was handed back with a full petrol tank. I accepted to pay the 200€ with my credit card and then was asked to sign on the pinpad. Surprisingly 7 days after giving the car back, I only received part of the deposit (76€). I went over all the paperwork that was handed to me and found that several charges were added to the contract (which is in the middle of several pages with a staple placed next to the charges) without me being informed or even mentioned: "recargo aeropuerto 9.82€, C. extra V. Diesel 10.33€, Cobertura Super 73.73€, Fianza Tarjeta 62.81€ and smart Return 12.36€". Some of these charges I can't even image what they mean as they were never mentioned or explained during the whole process. I had even mentioned to the employee that I had my own insurance. I speak both English and Spanish, so there was nothing missed in translation during this transaction. After contacting Interrent by phone, they keep asking me to send them an email but then they never reply. In my opinion a company that review themselves with this kind of behaviour shouldn't be trusted. I don't even want to imagine if you get involved in a traffic accident or in other kind of scam they promote. Be smart, do not book with them. You might save some money but will end up paying much more if something goes wrong or if they just decide to rob you.
— Another victim • August 15, 2019Better than expected (some negative online reviews had left me cautious). They did offer to upsell but this was easy to decline. There was a problem with the car on return and this was dealt with appropriately.
— CP • August 6, 2019So far i have.not been ripped off by this company but i will take legal action if i do. Having read the reviews i filmed the whole car inside and out in front on the loauto employee on return. I refused to sign anything until he checked the car and i signed that there was no damage and the car was full. This way you have proof how the car looked on delivery. They dont like being filmed so be warned. I respected that and didn't film him. Based on reviews from other customers i wouldn't use this company again.
— Scotslad500 • July 27, 2019Localauto in Palermo is by far the worst car rental experience we have ever experienced and that we have rented cars almost all over Europe. Before we left, we ordered a car from Enterprize with the highest possible protection at rentalcars. After payment, it automatically referred us to a crazy localauto. When we arrived in Palermo to pick up the car, they forced us to another insurance, which we refused because we already paid one full insurance. After we returned the car in order, clean and without damage, a localauto came to us, walked around the car once without looking at it properly, then pointed to one wheel and said there was a little scratch and it would cost us about 85 euro. We said it wasn't true and we wouldn't sign it and he shrugged and said that it would cost a lot more then. Because we hurried to the plane, we finally signed it, then we can solve it through rentalcars. We have been home for a week and no one has even returned a 500 euro deposit.
— Velta • July 26, 2019No problems with car hire. The car had some minor scratches when we collected it, but all of them were duly noted by the car hire company, and there was no issue when we returned the car.
— Kitkat • July 25, 2019Warning! Charging customers for fictitious damages, a real Italian scam Company! No more Locauto!!
— Lars P • July 16, 2019Reception was perfect, but return they charge you for nonsense scratches !!! Avoid this company
— MichoRiet • July 12, 2019Terrible experience. We hired a basic small car and took out full insurance. We arrived late at night and foolishly did not inspect the car thoroughly. The rep from Locauto ran the light from his tablet over it briefly and we did not pay too much attention as were happy to be starting our holiday. We drove to our hotel and parked the car for a week and then drove back to the airport a week later. The car was still immaculate or so we thought as we had hardly used it. They immediately accused us of scraping the back right wheel trim, which we could not have done as had never never parked the car against any kerb! The staff were rude and continued to accused us of damaging the car. Please do not make the mistake we did and check the car carefully before you drive away in it, and also take videos. They are crooks and should not be trusted. They ruined the end to what had been a great holiday. Since I have returned to the UK I have looked at their reviews - they are terrible - please do not book with them!
— Sunnie • July 8, 2019Fake Damage To anyone that may choose to use this company, my advice is be very careful and ensure you check every inch of the car you hire. Take a full video and examine the car with microscopic detail and ensure that ANY damage no matter how small is logged and agreed BEFORE you sign it out. You run the risk of being charged a very large sum for any tiny dents or pay an extra £40 to insure against this risk or better still pay a little bit more and stick with one of the major brands
— the equaliser • June 29, 2019I hired a Fiat Panda at the airport on 13 6 19 and was served by Silvia whom I found very courteous and efficient. However, I was taken aback when she said that the hire did not include vehicle roadside assistance or recovery. She said I would have to pay €2 a day to receive this cover. I told her that any car I have hired in the past included this in the hire contract. She insisted that I would have to pay and for peace of mind, I did and it cost me an extra €33. 96. I felt very aggrieved at this but just wanted to get on with my holiday. Rentalcars.com, with whom I made the online booking state on the contract with them that £140. 28 was the total for the hire. The car and every other aspect of the hire from Locauto was fine, pity about the above which I think is just another way to screw more money from the unsuspecting hirer.
— Satchmo • June 20, 2019All perfect: new car and helpful and courteous staff
— Kam • June 16, 2019The car was late being returned by previous driver but company extended my hire by more than the time lost initially.
— Target • May 3, 2019Very good, very helpful
— Phil the fish • April 26, 2019Their behaviour shows a clear intent to deceive. I collected the car and performed the inspection at night in total darkness, as the attendant did not have a torch o even a phone(!) - I had to use my own phone with a dying battery after travelling all day. When returning, the attendant told me "If you have filled the tank, there is no need to inspect the vehicle, have a safe trip". Lo and behold, they later charged me for a scratch I hadn't spotted (and which of course I did not cause).
— thoughfuldiner • September 11, 2018Hi My experience was excellent . The Airport staff stayed behind to organise our hire although everyone else had gone . The Hertz rep. was very abrupt and unhelpful, which is the reason we tried Locauto . Everything was plain sailing
— C.U.Jimmy • August 16, 2018Had a good experience with the rental however three months after renting the car I got an email saying I had gone into a Traffic Limited Zone in Bologna 3 times for 10 seconds. The Italian government may send me a charge for this, but because Locauto have been so harshly made to surrender an email address they have charged me 50 euro for the trouble. FOR ALL THREE TIMES. That's 150 euro to send one email address. I have checked all the documentation and see no evidence of this, they have become unresponsive when I talk to them now, despite previously being welcoming when they didn't have my money and have ignored my claim for otherwise and taken money out of my account without my permission. I am outraged at this behaviour and would not recommend them to anyone. Their hidden fees will kill you.
— Max • July 30, 2018Scammers. Use Locauto and Enterprise at your peril. Unethical business practices; - charging for an additional days rental, even when it was agreed on 2 separate occasions that the start time and drop off time had moved back by 5 hours, the total duration was within the allocated days of hire - charging for a scratch on the underside of the front bumper, which was only noticeable if you lay down on your back and had to use a mobile device to see it. To make matters worse, it was not incurred by me, but it was only picked up when dropping off as if they knew it was there. i.e. the tools, environment and process used during the pickup is vastly different to the drop off. Set up. Either it was caused by a previous renter and it wasn't picked up by the customer service representative (doubtful), or it was caused by the customer service representative when parking the car (likely). - Rude customer service who just ignore your dispute, despite a very considered and polite message - Charging for additional services (road side assistance, excess cover, etc.) even though the contract clearly states this was not included - Whilst associated with Enterprise, they themselves ignore you. Neither myself or my friends and family will ever use this brand, or the Enterprise brand again. This is unfortunate for both brands as between us we rent at least 15 cars a year. Thats a significant loss of business. Their loss is their competitors gain. All for a few hundred Euros.
— sykes • July 3, 2018
Very good and reliable rental company with reasonable prices. Their vehicles are almost brand new. I always use Locauto. Definitely one of the best car hire at Pisa Airport.
— Mr P • April 2, 2018terrible company. signed me for extra administrative fees whatsoever. problem with the highway gate the highways sent the company letter I have to pay extra 1.21 eur Locauto charged me for extra 48.8 eur!! another fine I asked them to send me the contract instead of this they charged my credit card for more!!! crooked company/
— john • November 4, 2017Hire a car in September - hardly drove it. On my return they went straight to a scuff under the bumper ( yes under the car) and have charged me 37f5 euros - avoid avoid avoid
— andy • October 13, 2017Quick and easy exercise, with friendly staff.
— Roberto • October 5, 2017I hired the car through Rentalcars.com under name of Enterprise and ended up with collecting car from Locauto. On returning car there was a tiny dent (caused by someone in carpark opening door on to us). Man siad that will be 330 euros and despite asking for paperwork was told it would be sent. No paperwork has been sent and of cause charge has appeared on my credit card statement. i am challenging it as dent was very minimal and not certain that repair has been undertaken. It is a shame as agents were helpful, spoke english well, car was beautifully clean and they seemed thorough on handover.
— whatsforteamum • September 9, 2017A bit of queue when picking up the car but the restwas perfect. Nice new clean car.
— Hector • September 3, 2017Alamo outsource to a company called Locauto who I suggest people avoid. I was charged 105 Euro for being one hour late and charged 264 Euro for scratches on the passenger side alloy wheel hub. Both charges were in my opinion excessive. I did not take photos of the wheel but would advise anyone else who ends up using Locauto to make sure they take plenty photos before driving the car away.
— JohnL • August 14, 2017Had to wait for 35 minutes in 45 degree heat , very little shade for courtesy bus . Staff not very helpful and struggled with speaking English . Not sure they appreciate they are in the Tourist business . Directions to drop off car not the best when we returned . Car was spotless and lovely to drive however.
— Big T • August 12, 2017Extremely nice and pleasant staff. Upgrade to an Audi for only €21 for the week.. Would use again.
— CJ • July 29, 2017I booked the car hire through Auto Europe, who acted as agent for Locauto. The hire car desk was easy to find in the airport terminal; the assisant was pleasant and efficient - there was no pressure to sell damage excess insurance. She simply asked if I already had such insurance. The car was parked in a covered car-park a short walk away from the terminal. The car was clean and had just over 30,000km on the clock. We had the car for 5 days and had no problems. We returned it to the same place and, after a short inspection and agreement that it was ok, I signed to complete the hire. First impressions of locauto were good: an efficient firm, no frills and no hassle. I would use them again.
